With a mission to unite and serve the alumni of Arizona State University, the ASU Alumni Association will dedicate significant resources to the success of Campaign ASU 2020, the university’s fundraising campaign that launched its public phase on Jan. 27, 2017.
The campaign, which will continue until June 30, 2020, is a comprehensive, university wide philanthropic effort. According to Alumni Association President and CEO Dr. Christine K. Wilkinson, the campaign represents a tremendous opportunity to tell the compelling story of ASU’s many recent successes, and to invite philanthropic support to sustain and advance the university’s reputation as an exceptional, world-changing public university.
The ASU Alumni Association historically has played a critical role in the university’s most important expansions,” Wilkinson said. “This campaign represents an incredible opportunity to position the university to do something even bigger, bolder and more vital. Working together, ASU’s visionary and generous alumni and supporters can help us make a once-in-a-generation leap forward.”
The Alumni Association will focus its contributions to the overall campaign in three of the effort’s six major topic areas: Ensuring student access and excellence; enriching our communities; and championing student success. In particular, the organization will seek to raise funds for the following programs and initiatives:
- Ensuring student success: Signature scholarship programs such as the Medallion and Legacy scholarships, as well as scholarships sponsored by the association’s chapter network.
- Enriching our communities: The Traditions Fund, which underwrites iconic Sun Devil events such as Founders’ Day, Legends Luncheon, Whitewash the A, Lantern Walk, Homecoming, and more.
- Championing student success: The Student Alumni Association, which promotes spirit, pride and tradition at ASU among undergraduate students, and Sun Devil Generations, which involves children from birth to eighth grade in age appropriate Sun Devil traditions activities designed specifically for them.
Dr. Wilkinson and Kathleen Duffy Ybarra, past chair of the Alumni Association’s board of directors, were recently interviewed on The Alumni Experience, the official podcast of the ASU Alumni Association. During the episode, they explained the association’s role in Campaign ASU 2020 and how Sun Devil alumni and supporters can become involved.
