Jenkins Retires After 21 Years of Service with "The President's Own" United States Marine Band

WASHINGTON - On April 17, 2026, "The President's Own" United States Marine Band hosted a retirement ceremony for Saxophonist Master Sgt. David Jenkins.


Jenkins, of Williamstown, Massachusetts, began his musical training at age 4. He attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (UMass) where he earned bachelor's degrees in music education and saxophone performance in 1996.
In 2001, he earned a master's of music in performance from Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe. His notable saxophone instructors include Lynn Klock of UMass, Joseph Wytko of ASU, and Eugene Rousseau of the University of Minnesota.

During his distinguished career, Jenkins ensured the successful accomplishment of the Marine Band's historic mission through diverse and impactful contributions, serving in direct support of four Presidents of the United States and seven Commandants of the Marine Corps. A versatile performer, he demonstrated extraordinary skill on the full family of saxophones, performing in concert, chamber and jazz settings with remarkable artistry and precision.


As a ceremonial marcher, he performed in more than 650 Full Honors Funerals at Arlington National Cemetery and over 150 Friday Evening Parades at Marine Barracks Washington. His expertise and reliability made him a trusted representative of the Marine Corps at the White House and on 13 national concert tours.


In addition to his significant musical contributions, he distinguished himself through his tireless work as a Tour Coordinator. His calm professionalism and meticulous attention to detail were pivotal to the success of tour, one of the U.S. Marine Band's most critical outreach initiatives. Jenkins' superior performance of duties culminated his 21 years of honorable and dedicated military service.


By his professional ability, steadfast initiative, and total dedication to duty, Jenkins reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
