Social Work
Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions
Las Vegas, NV

As a full-time solo parent, employee, student, and intern, returning to school felt ambitious, but necessary. While balancing motherhood, full-time work in corrections, a demanding unpaid internship, and a long-distance relationship, ASU Online made it possible for me to pursue my Master of Social Work without having to put my life on hold. ASU's flexible, fully online program allowed me to stay present for my child, remain financially stable, and gain hands-on experience in the criminal justice system while continuing my education. The support, structure, and accessibility of the program gave me the space to grow both professionally and personally during one of the busiest seasons of my life. A little over a month after graduating, I obtained my Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and was offered a position as a clinician at the Clark County Detention Center-stepping fully into the heart of mental health work where I can assess, diagnose, and advocate for individuals within the justice system. My journey with ASU is proof that with the right support and determination, it is possible to pursue higher education while carrying real-world responsibilities. ASU Online didn't just fit into my life-it helped me build the future I envisioned for myself and my child.
