Support Student Scholarships
The National Capital Chapter is proud to award a scholarship each summer to an incoming ASU student from the D.C. area.  The Chapter raises funds throughout the year to support the scholarship program.  Please take a moment to read some comments from our past scholars. "I am currently pursuing a double major at ASU in Communication and Justice Studies with a certificate in Sales and Marketing and while making a decision to attend a University across the nation from my hometown in Woodbridge, Virginia was one of the hardest choices that I was faced with in my life thus far, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. That might sound cliche and it might sound like it was quoted verbatim from an ad for the University but it is nothing but the solid truth. Coming to Arizona State University has given me the opportunity to learn concepts and material that just isn't taught in high schools around the nation or in community colleges where curriculum is planned. Coming to Arizona State University, a school ranked as number one in innovation, has given me the right to thought, the right to opportunity, and the right to education in topics that are deviant and controversial. I have benefited largely from my experience here and the scholarships I was awarded, including the Deans Award and the National Capital Scholarship, are the reason for all of it. I was able to use this money to fund my tuition and to buy the books that I needed for all of my classes, and through this I was able to fund a future that is bright and full." - Mackenzie Bates, '18

"As a senior about to graduate with a major in Visual Communications Design (Graphic Design), I can say with certainty that we are bit different than the majority of colleges within Arizona State University. I am so passionate about what I do, but the costs that go along with this program really add up. Most people assume we do most of our work digitally, and we definitely use programs like the Adobe Creative Suite, do front-end coding, and are on our computers all of the time. But ASU's design program is extremely unique in that the majority of what we do, especially our first two years in the program, is all by hand. This means materials on top of materials, and costs associated with printing, construction, and equipment time for things like laser cutters or CNC machines. This is all in addition to the textbooks for general classes and courses for my business minor! My freshman year, the year that I received the National Capital scholarship, I had no idea how much I actually needed that money until I went through it all. But it helped me pass my milestone and now I am doing what I've always dreamed of doing. I could not be more thankful to ASU as a university and to the National Capital Chapter for starting me off on the right foot!" - Gabriela Del Corna, '17.
