The 10th annual Legends Luncheon will honor ASU’s gridiron Hall of Famers from the 1920s to the 2000s. The ASU Alumni Association and the Sun Devil Club will celebrate Legends Luncheon: ASU Hall of Fame Friday, Oct. 27 at the Hyatt Regency Phoenix, 122 N. Second St. in Phoenix.
Sun Devil Hall of Famers returning for the luncheon include Bob Breunig, Shante Carver, Curley Culp, J.D. Hill, Steve Holden, Levi Jones, Bob Kohrs, John Mistler, Bobby Mulgado, Ron Pritchard, J.R. Redmond, Juan Roque, Danny White and Luis Zendejas.
Induction into the ASU Hall of Fame is based on one or more of the following criteria: all-America recognition; NCAA champion; world record setter; Olympic medal; NCAA statistical leader; and significant contribution to sports and graduation. Athletes become eligible for enshrinement 10 years after their senior class has graduated.
Legends Luncheon, held the day before Homecoming each year, recognizes various aspects of ASU’s football history. Alissa Serignese, vice president of programs and constituent relations for the association, said the event highlights the ASU football program’s legacy.
“Legends Luncheon pays tribute to the men who built Sun Devil football,” said Serignese. “Celebrating ASU’s football greats the day before Homecoming underscores that our current team stands on the shoulders of all the teams who came before them.”
“The annual Legends Luncheon is one of the premier events that our University sponsors each year and is at the top of my favorite Sun Devil experiences,” says Ray Anderson, Vice President for University Athletics. “It’s a unique event that annually honors our great Sun Devil past and this year is no exception with the ASU football Hall of Famers being recognized.”
Fans can have their photo taken with Sparky prior to the luncheon or interact with the Hall of Fame Sun Devils after the program. She explained that former ASU players and coaches enjoy reminiscing with fans at Legends Luncheon, as well as at the autograph tent the Alumni Association hosts at the Homecoming block party prior to the game on Saturday.
The Legends Luncheon is one of several events in which the ASU Alumni Association will host or participate during Homecoming Week, including the Lantern Walk up “A” Mountain, the Homecoming parade and block party, and presentation of its Homecoming Awards to distinguished alumni and university supporters.
