Tony Carrillo '04 b.f.a.

Tony Carrillo is well known for his quirky comic strip, “F Minus,” which is syndicated in 150 newspapers across the world. A Tempe native, Carrillo is a graduate of McClintock High School and started the comic strip during his sophomore year at Arizona State University. The cartoon ran daily in ASU’s independent student newspaper The State Press from 2002 to 2004. After graduating in 2004 with a degree in art from the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, Carrillo signed a deal with United Media after winning an online contest to determine the best college comic strip. In 2006, the comic strip began worldwide syndication, and in the first year of syndication it was nominated for a National Cartoonist Society division award: Best Newspaper Panel, and nominated again in the same category in 2009. Currently, Carrillo has published two “F Minus” books are available, “F Minus,” and “F Minus: This Can't Be Legal.”
