Phil Mickelson is a professional golfer who plays on the PGA circuit. Originally from San Diego, Calif., Mickelson arrived at Arizona State University on a full-ride scholarship to play golf, and graduated in 1992 after studying psychology. During his time at the university, Mickelson won three NCAA individual championships, three Haskins Awards, and became only the second collegiate golfer to earn 1st team All-American honors during all four years of eligibility. In 1990, while a junior at ASU, he became the first left-hander to win the U.S. Amateur title, and he later astonished critics when he won his first PGA Tour tournament as an amateur, becoming the fourth golfer in PGA history to do so. As a professional, Mickelson has won four major championships and more than 40 events overall on the PGA Tour. He has reached a career high world ranking of second in multiple years, and he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in May 2012.
