Lt. Gen. (ret.) John Goodman '71 b.s.

Lt. Gen. (Ret.) John Goodman attended Arizona State University and was the starting quarterback for the Sun Devils under the legendary Frank Kush in 1965 and 1966. He then joined the United States Army in 1967 where he served in the Vietnam War. He finished his bachelor’s degree in business administration at ASU in 1971.  Goodman played professional football briefly for the New Orleans Saints before joining the U. S. Marine Corps, where he logged more than 4,100 hours in tactical jet aircraft as he assumed multiple commands from 1971 to 2008. His last command was as commander of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, from 2005 to 2008. He received multiple awards during his time in the military including a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, and a Navy Distinguished Service Medal. After retiring at the rank of lieutenant general in 2008, Goodman served until February 2012 as the Director of the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance, a unit of the United States Pacific Command.
