Doug Hopkins '84 b.s.

Doug Hopkins was best known for co-founding the Gin Blossoms, a rock band popular in the 1990s, writing songs for the band while acting as its lead guitarist.  An Arizona native, Hopkins graduated from McClintock High School in 1979 and graduated from Arizona State University in 1984 with a degree in sociology. While attending ASU, he formed his first band, which included Gin Blossoms bassist Bill Leen. In 1990, the Gin Blossoms, already popular in Tempe, signed a contract with A&M Records. The band’s first album, New Miserable Experience, reached multiplatinum levels after it was released in 1992.
