Whitewashing the "A"

Whitewashing the "A" has been a tradition here at ASU since the 1930's when some students decided to paint the A on Tempe Buttes white at the beginning of the school year. The A stays white until our first home football game of the season. This symbolizes a new beginning for freshmen as college students and the fresh start of new school year!

This year it will be held directly following The Sun Devil Welcome at Wells Fargo Arena on August 18, 2010. It's a fun time and usually attracts 1,500-3000 students! We'll hand you some drinking water and a Dixie cup with white paint in it at the base. Then you'll proceed up the mountain, dump your white paint anywhere on the A, and starting hand-painting the A.

It is a great way to begin the new school year and get involved at ASU. College is about studying hard, but you must make time to have fun and get involved as well.

When: Wednesday, August 18 at 4 p.m.
Where: Meet on the south side of A Mountain immediately following The Sun Devil Welcome

Join us and participate in one of the longest running ASU traditions!
