Practice the fundamentals of career mastery with us this month!

For all the praise that is poured on the “natural talent” of people who are good at what they do - whether that activity is competing in the Olympics or mapping out strategy in the boardroom - research often shows that talent is not the end-all and be-all of determining success. University of Pennsylvania researcher Angela Duckworth, through her groundbreaking studies on “grit,” has demonstrated that two other characteristics are significant in determining who will ultimately succeed in a given field of endeavor:

    ▪    Responding resiliently to adverse situations, setbacks, and failure.
    ▪    Sticking with an interest over a long period of time, and consciously choosing to focus one’s energies on that area (instead of bouncing from interest to interest).

The ASU Alumni Career Services program has been hosting frequent opportunities to improve your career management skills for many years. Invest time in our live and online activities and you will receive valuable feedback on your efforts, priceless networking connections, as well as numerous chances to be of service to others (a key, but often less publicized, part of the job-hunt process).

Over the next month or so, Sun Devils will have the chance to practice career management “fundamentals” — promoting themselves in a networking situation, improving their resume and their interviewing skills, and receiving feedback from a career coach. Best of luck and much success on your journey!
