Sometimes, the biggest block to advancing our own success isn’t our skillset, the state of the job market in our industry, the size of our network, or even the quality of our interview attire wardrobe. It’s our belief in ourselves. When we believe in ourselves as working professionals, we’re more likely to apply for a new job, put in the work needed to make the case for a promotion, or start a challenging “side project” that will elevate our profile as a leader in our niche.
Career coach Christie Mims, writing for The Muse, asserts that career confidence is based on three key things:
- Your comfort in any given situation
- Your understanding of your strengths and talents
- The little voices in your head and your ability not to listen to them
She provides a number of tips to improve your career confidence, including everything from reworking your morning routine to maximize comfort to finding ways to do more of the work tasks you love to do to show off your true talents.
“Boosting your confidence isn’t a quick fix. But helping yourself get more comfortable, identifying and focusing on your strengths, and tempering your negative thoughts can all go a long way to remind you that you have everything you need to create the career of your dreams.”
