We live in an age of specialists and niches. Every day, I’m amazed how successful entrepreneurs build businesses based on a narrow band of products, sold to a narrow band of potential clients/customers.
And yet, while intense focus can be a good thing, so can having broad horizons. Whether it’s cultivating your interests in music, art or literature to help yourself be come a better employee or leader, or making time for your favorite hobby to ensure you have a life outside of your job, sometimes it makes sense to try to meet networking connections through a new type of event, test new types of technology for connecting with employers, or look at one’s career development through a new lens.
The ASU Alumni Career Services calendar has just the sort of activity mix you need to broaden your perspective! In the coming weeks, we’ll offer live and online mixers, weekly webinars to increase your career skills, and online chats that will introduce you to Sun Devil professionals working in the global marketplace. Don’t be afraid to try something new — having a fat portfolio of career experiences can make you an “in demand” candidate!
