Jacob Meders: 'And It's Built on the Sacred'
There is a long history of Euro-Western civilizations taking the sacred sites of indigenous people and building their religious structures on them. Many temples, missions and churches were constructed on sacred sites during the expansion of Western colonialism.
This exhibition will be focusing on contemporary items that reflect this very critical manifestation of colonialism. Using paintings and ceramic sculptors, Meders will re-indigenize popular Western religious forms, essentially applying the very tools used by colonizers, by appropriating and setting indigenous representations upon them.
