Sarah Johnson, '23 BA, '25 MSL

When I began my freshman year at Arizona State University in 2019, I chose to major in Business Sustainability because of my interest in the environment and sustainable business practices. During my time at ASU, I discovered a strong sense of community through the ASU Swim Club. As an active member, I helped organize volunteer events, attended travel meets, cheered on fellow Sun Devils at sporting events, and built lasting friendships.
ASU also provided incredible opportunities that helped launch my career, including an internship with Salt River Project (SRP). In that role, I supported sustainability initiatives focused on diverting waste from landfills through educational events, presentations, data analysis, and research. This experience strengthened my passion for creating practical environmental solutions and demonstrated the impact sustainability can have within an organization.
Because of my love of learning and personal growth, I knew I wanted to continue my education after earning my Bachelor of Science in Business Sustainability in 2023. That same year, I began ASU's Master of Sustainability Leadership (MSL) program while continuing my internship at SRP. The MSL program helped develop my leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills by allowing me to work with diverse teams to address real-world sustainability challenges.
While pursuing my master's degree, I transitioned into my current role as a Supply Chain Analyst within SRP's Logistics & Materials Management organization. In this position, I support the Logistics, Materials Management, and Investment Recovery departments through strategic planning, implementation of sustainability initiatives, goal development, presentations, and process improvement efforts. ASU also played a special role in my personal life. Through the ASU Swim Club, I met my soon-to-be husband, Gabe. We graduated together in 2025 and are excited to be getting married in October 2026. Looking back, ASU provided me with far more than an education. It helped me discover my passions, develop meaningful professional skills, build lifelong friendships, launch my career, and meet the person I will spend the rest of my life with. I am forever grateful for ASU!
