Board Members

Theresa Esparza '94 M.Tax. Esparza is the director of tax for P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Inc. A graduate of the Hispanic Leadership Institute at Arizona State University, Esparza is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ State and Local Taxation Technical Resource Panel. She is also a past treasurer and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Phoenix, Inc., and has worked as a loaned executive for the Valley of the Sun United Way. Prior to joining the board of the Alumni Association, Esparza was a member of its National Alumni Council.
Andy Hanshaw '87 Hanshaw is executive director at Discover Pacific Beach. He currently serves as the president of the San Diego Chapter.
Barbara Hoffnagle '83 M.S.E. Hoffnagle has worked as the associate general manager and chief information executive for SRP, where she worked for 25 years. She also serves on the boards of the Fresh Start Women’s Foundation and WEI (Western Energy Institute), as a trustee for the Desert Botanical Gardens, and as a member of the advisory committee for the University of Idaho’s Utility Executive Course.
Ivan Johnson ’73 B.A., ’86 M.B.A. Johnson is vice president of community relations and televideo for Cox Communications Arizona. He is also secretary of the Greater Phoenix Economic Development Committee, chairman of Cox Charities, a member of the Dean’s Council of 100 at the W. P. Carey School of Business and past president of the Arizona Cable Television Association. He is secretary of the Greater Phoenix Economic Development Committee and a past chairman of the Arizona State Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce.
Brian LaCorte '85 B.S. LaCorte is an equity partner at Ballard Spahr LLC, a national law firm where he oversees the intellectual property team in the firm's Phoenix office. He focuses his practice on litigation involving patents, trademarks and copyrights. He is recognized in Best Lawyers in America and in several other peer review publications. LaCorte has served on Arizona's "Smart Beginnings" task force and the Arizona Coalition to End Homelessness. He recently completed a long tenure as executive board member of Crisis Nursery and was past president of Southwest Human Development. He is active in the St. Thomas More Society, Valley Leadership (Class XI), and the Valley Citizens League. LaCorte has supported the ASU Leadership Scholarship and Devils Advocates alumni chapters over the last several years.
Dan Mullen '66 Currently president and a member of the board of directors of Continental Leasing Company, Mullen also serves on the boards of Amerco, U-Haul International, Oxford Life Insurance Company and the C. Myers Corporation. He has held leadership positions in numerous philanthropic and educational boards, including the ASU Parents Association and the Barrett Honors College Parent Leadership Council; AMERICO; U-Haul International; Oxford Life Insurance Company; C. Myers Corporation; Interfaith Cooperative Ministries.
Stephanie Nowack '76 M.B.A. Nowack is president and CEO of the Tempe Tourism Office. Prior to joining the tourism office, she held positions in both the corporate and nonprofit fields, working at Security Pacific Bank (now Bank of America), Motorola, and Valley of the Sun United Way. Nowack serves on the boards of the Tempe Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Tempe Community, and the Arizona Tourism Alliance. She is a graduate of Valley Leadership Class IV, Sky Harbor’s Aviation Academy, and the Phoenix Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy, and served for many years as a reading tutor for the Boys & Girls Clubs and All Star Kids Tutoring. She also has worked as a faculty associate at ASU, teaching special event management, and as a marketing instructor for the ASU Lodestar Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Innovation.
Martin Quintana '87, 04 M.B.A. Since 1998, Quintana has been the executive vice president of corporate services and chief operating officer for Chicanos Por La Causa, a Hispanic advocacy organization. Quintana has also worked for Alliant/Kraft Foodservice as an accountant and accounting manager. He also serves on the boards of the W. P. Carey Executive MBA Alumni Program; NPower Arizona; Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Protecting Arizona Families Coalition and Parenting Arizona. He makes his home in Chandler, AZ.
J. Scott Rhodes ’95 J.D. Rhodes is the managing attorney at Jennings, Strouss & Salmon, PLC, and also serves on the firm’s management committee. He has an extensive background in legal ethics and is a published writer on the topic. He was appointed by the Arizona Supreme Court to serve on its Attorney Discipline Task Force and is also the chair of the State Bar of Arizona’s Rules of Professional Conduct Committee.
Todd Siffren '91 Siffren is Tax Manager and Financial Advisor with Whitman and Jackson, CPAs, PC. His general areas of expertise include business consulting, tax planning and compliance, retirement planning and investment management. Todd is also an adjunct professor at Scottsdale Community College. Todd has served on the Audit Committee and as a representative for the Alumni Association on the ASU Foundation Investment Committee. Todd is father of two future Sun Devils and likes to golf, hike and attend ASU football games.
Jeff van Raaphorst, ’87, ’97 M.B.A. W. P. Carey School of Business, Phoenix, AZ van Raaphorst and his business partner sold Benton BioMedical to Medtronic, Inc., where Jeff is currently a District Sales Manager for the Minneapolis based company. In addition to his sales manager duties, Jeff has been the radio color analyst for the Arizona State University Football team for over twenty years. He was the 1987 Arizona Amateur Athlete of the Year and was voted the 1987 Rose Bowl Most Valuable Player. He was also the first Sun Devil to be inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 2006.
